Topic: BPW at 100: The Fight for Women's Rights - How Far Have We Come and What is Still Left to Do
Business Professional Women is 100 years old this year. For our April 1st dinner event, Dr. Nancy Ovitsky will discuss the milestones in the past 100 years, the fight for women's rights, current trends in women achieving equality in pay and rights - and what challenges women and families still face. This will be an exciting and interesting dinner, please join us to hear Nancy and enjoy time with other women in our community.
Guest Speaker: Dr. Nancy Ovitsky
Dr. Nancy Ovitsky is a Professor in the Department of Business Administration & Economics at MCLA and has served as a faculty member of that department for over 30 years, including 10 years as Chair. She is active on many committees and initiatives both on and off campus, and was instrumental in preparing the proposal for the department’s MBA program, which she has directed since its inception in 2010.
Dr. Ovitsky is a member of the Berkshire Compact, the county organization dedicated to increasing educational aspirations for county citizens. She is also a member of the Berkshire Business & Professional Women’s club, an organization that advocates for the rights of working women and which provides scholarships for women to continue their education.
Dr. Ovitsky’s academic interests have focused on the history and impact of the creative economy and tourism and recreation in the Berkshires, and have included production of a video on the potential impact of MASS MoCA on the economic development of the northern Berkshires; development of a concentration in Sport and Event Management; and development of several related courses, including the Economics of Culture & Tourism and Berkshire Art, Industry, & Tourism.
Dr. Ovitsky has also worked with colleagues from across the state in presenting a multi-campus course on Global Economic and Business Issues, and has also done numerous international presentations with her co-instructors, including presentations in Costa Rica, Portugal, South Africa, the Netherlands, Brazil, and Australia.
Dr. Ovitsky teaches a wide variety of courses in the department in various areas of economics, marketing, management, and information technology.
Dr. Ovitsky received her Ph.D. and M.S. in Family & Consumer Economics at the University of Illinois; additionally she received her B.A. in Retailing at the same institution. She has been a resident of Pittsfield since 1980, where she helps her two sons and daughters-in-law raise her six grandchildren!
